An ATS-friendly resume is not about tricking software. It is about making your experience easy to parse, easy to match, and easy for a recruiter to understand once it reaches their screen.

Use clear section structure

Applicant tracking systems rely on predictable headings such as Summary, Experience, Education, Skills, Projects, and Certifications. Creative labels can look polished visually, but they may make parsing less reliable.

Keep job titles, company names, dates, and locations in consistent positions. This helps both software and recruiters understand your career timeline without extra effort.

Match language from the job description

Review the job description for exact skill names, tools, certifications, and role requirements. If you genuinely have that experience, use the same wording in your resume.

Avoid keyword stuffing. A strong resume places keywords inside real accomplishments, such as projects, responsibilities, and measurable outcomes.

Keep formatting simple

Use readable fonts, standard bullets, and straightforward layouts. Columns, icons, graphics, and complex tables can make a resume harder to parse.
