How to Tailor Your Resume to a Job Description
A tailored resume helps employers see the connection between your experience and their role faster. The goal is not to rewrite your entire career for every application, but to bring the most relevant evidence to the front.

Start with the role's priorities
Read the job description and identify the top requirements that appear repeatedly. These are usually the skills, tools, and outcomes the employer will screen for first.
Group those requirements into themes, such as customer support, data analysis, leadership, engineering systems, or sales performance. Then decide where each theme already appears in your resume.
Rewrite bullets around relevance
Strong bullets connect what you did, how you did it, and why it mattered. If the job emphasizes customer experience, bring forward service quality, speed, retention, satisfaction, or issue resolution.
When you have metrics, use them. When you do not, use clear qualitative outcomes, such as improved handoffs, faster service, cleaner reporting, or more reliable operations.
Adjust the summary and skills last
Your summary should reflect the target role after the experience section has been aligned. This keeps the top of the resume grounded in evidence rather than generic claims.
Your skills section should include tools and competencies you can discuss confidently in an interview. Remove unrelated skills if they distract from the role.
